Comedy in Japan

Recently, I’ve been into these Japanese comedy duo called Pistachio and I’ve been watching a lot of their skits on the internet. They have this really interesting manner of speaking that just makes them really interesting to watch. The topics they present on are those kind of everyday topics like “My favourite kind of food” but the way they put it across just makes them very entertaining

Actually, comedy duos or Manzai duos aren’t that common outside of Japan. The traditional Japanese format have what they call the “tsukkomi” and the “boke”, or rather the “straight man” and the “funny man”. With skits generally revolving around misunderstandings and word plays in the conversation between the 2. In fact this manzai thing is really big in Japan, they even have competitions that are broadcasted on national television. It’s a kind of stand-up comedy that is unique to Japan!

Videos of Pistachio are actually available on the internet but you do have to be able to understand Japanese to get their jokes. So please do check it out if you’re interested. You could say I’ve been going nuts about them.
