The Levi Ackerman hairstyle

As I go about my day, I sometimes receive comments that I look like Levi Ackerman from the anime, Attack on Titan. It doesn’t help that I also have dark eye bags. So I thought, why not I explain how to do up this hairstyle.

The following will be a three-step tutorial, and we will not be using any fancy equipment like a hair straightener.

Step 1: Haircut
One of the most important things for the style to work is the foundation of the haircut, and you must do it right.
You might wonder, “What do I tell my hairdresser?” No worries, we got it covered.
a) Ask for a normal slope
– What a slope does is that it essentially shades the side of your hair, and it cuts your sides to around a level between your eyebrows and hairline.
– I will advise not to ask for a high slope because you’ll like the higher parts of the sides to give the hair, which is overlapping the side of your head, more volume.
– I’ll also advise requesting a no.3 slope, which is 3/8 of an inch. Anything longer than that is fine too. This is to keep your hair on the dense side to avoid seeing the skin. If your skin can be seen, the skin showing the side of your hair will be lighter, and the top part, which is very dense, will create a weird contrast between the top and the side of your hair.
b) For the crown of your hair, you’ll want to tell the hairdresser that you intend to have the hair on the top of your head overlapped to the side. If you do not have the hair on the crown of your head grown out long enough to be overlapped, start growing them, and tell your hairdresser not to cut it during your haircut.
c) Next, you’ll like your hairdresser to cut a mushroom bang, and have it cut to a length between your eye and your eyebrow.
For this hairstyle to work well, your hair should be grown to at least at your eyebrow level, as anything shorter than that may make the hairstyle look weird.

Step 2: Habits
a) Find your natural parting hairline, then play around with your hair and find the point where your hair cuts through the middle of your head.
b) Once you find that point, part and comb your hair to the sides whenever you are washing or touching your hair.
– It allows your hair to be more comfortable and flexible in the direction you try to make them go.
– Eventually, your hair will move to the shape that you want it to go to naturally.

Step 3: Wax
a) After washing your hair, use a hairdryer to blow your hair dry in the parting direction.
b) Next, use your hands to comb the hair in the direction of the parting.
c) Apply wax on your hands and apply them to the parting hair to keep the parting in shape.
d) Lastly, hold your hands up in an ‘inverted L’ shape, grab the parting hair, pull it up slightly and hook it down.
– That’s how you create the ‘hooked fringe’ look of the hairstyle.
