“Always easy to manage”

We are finally going to talk about something new here! So far, our blog posts have been pretty brief, consisting of descriptions of our stylists’ creations which can actually be found on Instagram anyway. Thus, we are going to be changing things up a bit.

As a Japanese hair salon with Japanese hairstylists, one ongoing trend that we have constantly seen and heard in Singapore is “a manageable hairstyle” which is often justified with the humid weather or not enough time to style in the morning. For our Japanese hair stylists, that came as quite a shock. This is because in Japan, customers often visit a hair salon for a hairstyle that suits them more than a hairstyle that is easy to manage. This could be because the Japanese culture places a larger focus on appearances where looking neat is the bare minimum.

A recent rising trend that we have seen in Japan is short hair cuts, which is the total opposite of Singapore where long locks are preferred as they can be easily tied into a ponytail or there is a fear of looking like a little boy after getting a short cut.

As someone who has been sporting a short cut for 2 years now, I can say I’ve loved every variation of it. If you are thinking there is not much one can do after cutting your hair short, you are in for a surprise.

For short hair, it needs regular trims to maintain the style. A significant difference can be made with just a few centimerters of hair growth. This also means I get to change my hair style as regularly as every 2 months.

As you can see, they are all different. For a softer look, you may opt for the top and middle row where the layers are more gentle and longer. While for a cooler, chic look, you may opt for the bottom row where hair surrounding the nape is cut shorter and the cuts are also sharper.

Besides the type of cuts used generally; sharp or gentle, the style of a short hair cut will vary depending on if you have a perm, highlights, a bright base color and even the style of your fringe. All these components will play a part in creating an overall impression. A Short cut is not just one look, it can be styled in plenty of ways.
