Men’s Short Hair vs Medium Length Hair | My Opinion

Before completing my National Service, I never grew out my hair, and had a short haircut for 23 years of my life. My friends call it “the secondary school haircut”. I was perfectly fine with keeping this hairstyle.

But that changed when I got interested in fashion and realised the difference one’s hairstyle can make to one’s overall vibe. So I’ve decided to grow out my hair and see what I could do with it. At the moment, it’s long enough to style up a Levi Ackerman hairstyle.

As I grew out my hair, there were noticable changes in my lifestyle because of the different hair length. Today, I’ll like to go through the pros and cons, and the lifestyle of having both hair lengths from a guy’s perspective.

Short Hair

Lifestyle:
After my shower, my hair dries completely after giving it a towel wipe down. I never needed to comb my hair. However, because I have stubborn straight hair, my sides grow out of shape quickly. Thus, I need to trim my sides once every 2 to 3 weeks.

Pros:
Super convenient lifestyle – easy to dry, don’t need to style, easy lifestyle
Potray yourself as a serious and professional guy

Cons:
Unable to play around with hairstyle
People might joke that you look like a secondary school boy
Have to cut your sides once every 2-3 weeks

Medium Length Hair

Lifestyle:
After my shower, in addition to towel drying my hair, I need to blow dry my hair. If I’m at home, I need a hairband to keep my fringe up, if not my fringe will irritate my eyes. If I’m going outside, I need to wax my hair to create the centre parting or into whatever style that I want. In a scenario that I’m outside and my wax isn’t holding up my fringe anymore, I need to apply more wax. My fringe will irritate my eyes for the rest of the day if I forgot to bring out my wax.

Because the top of my hair overlaps my sides, this gives my hairstyle more volume. I can go up to more than a month without cutting my sides.

Pros:
Able to play around with different hairstyles and look more fashionable
Potray yourself as a guy with an intention
Don’t have to go for a haircut every 2-3 weeks

Cons:
Hair takes long to dry
Inconvenient lifestyle
Possible irritation to your eyes

So what’s my verdict? Do I prefer a longer hair length, or a shorter one? I would say I miss the convenience of having short hair, but I currently would like to try something different from what I’m used to, and step out of my comfort zone. I’m willing to sacrifice convenience to look more fashionable.
