Pop Culture Hair: Sansa Stark (GoT end spoilers)

I usually like Sansa’s styling (LOVE the gown she had for her crowning in the last episode!) but I have some mixed feelings about her hair!

On one hand, I love that she just wore it straight and simple – no braids, no curls, just really sleek and pretty. Sansa’s hairstyles have gone through quite the transformation throughout the series – she started out with Tully-style braids (as influenced by her mother?), and then picked up Lannister and Tyrell styles when she was in King’s Landing, so it’s really nice to see her dump all of that and come into her own as the Queen in the North. These mostly straight and loose styles with minimal braids look amazing on her (not gonna lie, I did not like the Tyrell-style rope braids on Sansa. They looked so fussy and adult…)

On the other hand, I have some doubts about how the crown sits perfectly at her hairline, because to me it kind of looks like her hair is sprouting from the crown, which is… an uncomfortable thought for me…

The thing about complicated hairstyles is that obviously, they take a lot of time to do, so for example, Daenerys’ braids show off not only her battle success (in Dothraki culture), but also that she has servants to do these upstyles and the time to sit around and let them braid her hair. It’s a demonstration of wealth, success, and power. But Sansa’s sleek style kind of gives me this ‘busy working and BEING QUEEN so I don’t have time to sit still and let people mess with my hair’ vibe, which I also like…

All in all, I love Sansa and will fight for her (even if the plot of season 8 has been largely illogical and made her ‘look bad’ or whatever).
