why wait 48 hours to wash your hair??

have you ever wondered why your stylist tells you not to wash your hair for 2 days?

it is because your hair is still recovering from the perm session!

our hair’s natural pH is more towards the acidic end (between 4.5 and 5.5). when you do perms the hair salon, the solution is alkaline, and the hair’s pH will increase. through the exposure to the air, your hair’s pH can return to its usual acidic value – but this requires time to do so. it is said that this process requires at least 48 hours (aka 2 days) to do so.

also, while in an alkaline state, the cuticles of your hair are still raised – which makes it more susceptible to damage. therefore, when you wash your hair, you are essentially washing away the solution + exposing your hair to more damage by washing away the amino acids that your hair requires for it to be healthy.

on top of that, your stylist at the hair salon may have suggested to you to do proper home haircare for your hair – that is to make sure you are giving your hair the nutrients it needs to be healthy.

now you know! of course, this is just a general guide; in Singapore’s weather it is probably close to impossible to not wash your hair everyday – so try if you can!
