Common habits that damages your hair

In sunny Singapore where the weather is always hot, your hair not only receive damages from the UV rays but also from air conditioning and swimming pools. Do you know you can actually prevent them?

Many attempts to manage the damage by changing the shampoo and treatments they use. But what they do not know is that some of their daily routine actually damages their hair as well!

We will talk about some common habits that leads to hair damage. 

 

Do you use more force than necessary when brushing your hair? 

When using a comb to detangle your hair, many forcefully brush through the tangles. It becomes a habit for many unknowingly, not realizing how forceful they actually are being. Let’s try to recall the times you tried to comb your hair after shampooing or during your daily brushing. Damaging actions as such will lead to a huge impact on your hair in the long run. When detangling your hair, do it slowly in small bunches at a time with minimal force.

 

Hot Showers

Showering with hot water is especially popular with the Japanese. However water that is too hot actually can cause damage to the hair and scalp. The protective layer that protects your scalp and hair will get damaged, prevent them from doing their job. It can also result in brittle hair and split ends. So please try to lower the water you use to wash your hair to reduce the damage from the heat!

 

Leaving your hair in the bathtub

Your hair the mainly made up of protein based components such as keratin and amino acids. By leaving your hair dipped in the bathtub for too long, it will cause protein depletion, damaging the hair.

 

Blow drying your hair while leaving it tangled 

Do you blow dry your hair in a tangled state right after towel drying? When you do so, your hair cuticles will get damaged and will result in your hair drying out from the protein depletion. Please make sure to comb your hair through properly before drying with a hair dryer. 

 

Drying your hair from the bottom

When drying your hair with a blow dryer, having the wind blowing upwards from the bottom is actually not recommended as it goes against the flow of the hair. It will result in a fizzy fluffy mess and also causes the hair to tangle easily. Though it may be a little tiring, do make an effort to lift the hair dryer and have the wind dry your hair from top down.

 

Sleeping with wet hair

 

When your hair is wet, your hair cuticles are in an open state. Your hair is more prone to protein depletion in this state. Furthermore, the friction between your hair and the pillow will further aggravate the possible damage done. Damp hair promotes growth of bacteria as well, resulting in various scalp problems.
